Ozone disinfection of irrigation water. An extra weapon for the IV Gamma

Microbiological contamination of irrigation water is no longer a minor factor in horticultural production. Irrigation plays a vital role on all farms because it directly affects crop productivity and quality, but water quality can make the difference between gain and loss on the farm.

For years, many companies in the horticultural sector have relied on Ecofarm’s expertise, understanding how essential it is to monitor not only the chemical composition of irrigation water, but also the microbiological aspects of water supply sources.

Between reservoirs, wells and river surface waters, each possesses specific chemical and microbiological characteristics. The importance of verifying quality at entry is not everything. Measuring microbiological composition, even in different months of the year, at the point of water delivery is still little in use but extremely useful in actually understanding what is coming to the plant. In some cases, the use of non-sterile water at the point of entry quickly leads to biofilm formation in irrigation systems in addition to also being a vehicle for pathogens that can subsequently infect the crop.

Ecofarm offers its own water treatment with OZONE: this technology helps the farmer in managing phytopathologies from the hydroponic greenhouse to the open field. The advantage of ozone is that it can treat large amounts of water in a short time and compared to other disinfection systems, and it can be used in-line in the irrigation system. Thus, inserting an ozone water treatment system offers the possibility of protecting crops from both microbiological contamination (e.g., coliforms, E. coli, etc.) that can lead to product disputes and waterborne diseases such as bacterial diseases.

The result is to “defend” crops from widespread risks of bacteriosis or other diseases related to surface water contamination and, most importantly, to ensure product quality in terms of health and shelf life by helping the farmer incorporate a natural solution on the farm that helps limit the use of pesticides.

The installation of Ecofarm Ozone machines for sanitizing irrigation water means that even surface water can be used with foliar spraying, without running the risk of subsequent problems related to microbial load on the product. All with simple, automatic and very inexpensive technology.

A system:
-Easy to apply and install
-which leaves no residue in the water
-with a rapid return on investment
-with very low maintenance costs and consumption
-that makes it possible to use available water resources in a waste-free and fruitful way.

Ecofarm makes its irrigation water treatment technology available to horticultural farms-a system designed to sanitize the water resource and make it more usable. Ecofarm’s experience, gained through years of studies and applications in the field and now recognized by many leading companies in the industry, allows us to say that this irrigation water treatment system is able to limit, if not eliminate, the risk of bacterial diseases on crops, and to prevent the spread of both viral and fungal diseases.

Contributions, extended deadlines. Here are the dates for all regions

As many will know, the final dates for submitting applications for aid under the Investment 2.3 call change for so many regions “Innovation and mechanization in the agriculture and food sector” – Submeasure “Modernization of agricultural machinery to enable the introduction of precision farming techniques,” including those proposed by Ecofarm for the livestock and vegetable sector.

Masaf also eliminated the investment cap previously set at 70,000 euros, while the 35,000-euro contribution limit remains.

For most regions, the application deadline is now May 31, 2024. The only exceptions are Basilicata and Emilia Romagna, which have set a deadline of May 10, 2024, while Molise and Trentino al Adige have not yet set extension deadlines.

Below is the complete list of all regions with corresponding deadlines.

Ozone in agriculture, Ecofarm introduces itself to Stefani – Bentegodi students

The use of ozone in agriculture was the central theme of the morning that saw Ecofarm Storti take center stage in front of students from the Stefani Bentegodi Institute.

A morning during which the students, at the Fratelli Barana winery that hosted the event, had the opportunity to learn more about the Ecofarm world with particular focus on ozone applications and especially the results obtained in the vineyard. A meeting during which both practical and more scientific aspects were precisely presented, entering into the specifics of foliar treatment and its usefulness in reducing the use of pesticides.

Great attention shown by students throughout the morning discovering sustainable and green processes.

Ecofarm Storti thanks Fratelli Barana for their hospitality. In addition, thanks are extended to the Vice Principal and teachers of Stefani Institute and the students who participated.

Bastardi farm invests in Breezair for its dairy cows

“This year’s most successful investment,” is how Enzo Bastardi called the Breezair cooler, distributed by Ecofarm in partnership with Italkero.

The Bastardi F.lli Enzo and Villiam farm has experimented with the use of Breezair with great success. The farm raises dairy cows for Parmigiano Reggiano production, and cooling technology has introduced significant improvements.

A product so innovative that the Fieragricola Innovation Award 2022 Committee honored it during the last edition of Fieragricola.

Breezairs are used in all cow stalls during the production cycle: the continuous air exchange ensures that temperatures do not rise excessively in summer. This reduces animals’ heat stress and the occurrence of infections.

As a result, the health of the cows improves and also the quality parameters of milk and cheese, which remain the same in winter as in summer.

Enzo Bastardi told us in detail about their company’s use of the Breezair and also the big cost savings it has introduced.

Ozone: an ally in viticulture. Barana Brothers Farm chooses Ecofarm technology

Through word of mouth, Barana Brothers Farm has adopted the technologies provided by Ecofarm for viticulture, in which they specialize.

In fact, the farm grows native grapes for wine production, as well as cherries, olives and apricots.

Through the use of ozone, they have succeeded in their intent to preserve the healthiness of the grapes right from the field, thus introducing a healthy product into the fruit orchard that maintains its excellence until pressing.

The benefits they found prompted them to experiment with using ozone also to combat pathogens that attack other crops.

According to Marco Barana, who told us directly about his experience with Ecofarm technologies, the results are great: “it increases the healthiness of the grapes but also of the surrounding environment, and the producer saves on phytosanitary products.”
